Voting feeds the Soul of the Nation

Updated: Sep 10, 2019

Voting is dedication, devotion, and determination to build a strong nation.

On 25th January 1950, Election Commission of India came into being. To commemorate that momentous and memorable beginning in the history of India as an independent nation, we celebrate this day as the National Voters Day. Setting up of the Election Commission heralded a new era in the Indian polity.

The nation which was still reeling under the humongous pains of partition, fragmented on the frivolous lines of caste, religion or regionalism welcomed it as a breath of fresh air. The nation whose psyche had been deeply tormented and tortured by the colonial powers for over two centuries welcomed it is a new lease of life.

The sacrifices and struggles which led to the liberation of our souls from the colonial role witnessed it as a promising change.

India became the largest democracy in the world and the whole world welcomed it as a blissful beginning.

Right to vote is the most sacred right that was given to us by the founding fathers of our constitution so that we can build a nation of our dreams. A terrific tool which can alter the behavior patterns, change the consequences and initiate the major paradigm shifts in the psychology of an entire nation. tools can be transformational or turbulent as well.

Are we using our right to vote the way we are supposed to?

Where do we stand today?

What, I strongly feel is that we needn’t answer this question to anybody.

It has to be answered within.

Since the first generals election held in 1952 to date when we are standing on the threshold of becoming a superpower, our voting behavior is disappointing and demotivating. Elections are around the corner and it becomes a sacred duty on our part to vote amicably and intelligently so that we can pursue our dream of becoming the golden sparrow again.

Let’s not waste our precious vote this time and play a cardinal role in selecting the right leadership which can take forward the mission and vision of our founding fathers, national heroes who sacrificed their life for the freedom, we are cherishing and relishing.

As nationals of this beautiful state, it is our sacred duty as well as accountability and responsibility to use this device in a right way keeping in mind the higher national interests and goals.

Every right has a corresponding duty. if we want our legislators to be accountable to us, it is our duty to first ensure that

1. Whom we are electing,

2. Why we are electing and for

3. What we are electing.

Let’s pledge on this momentous day to use our right to vote in the most effective way and leave a legendary legacy for our coming generations so that we all can bask in the glorious electoral history of our nation and pave the way for better governance that can change the course and shape of our nation as a powerful geopolitical entity.

Hare Krishna!!!
